Al Wahid - The (Unique) One
Al Wahid is the name which brings to us the basic concept of Islam.
Al Wahid is "the One" and "the Unique".
"The One" who has no aspects of any sharing in His Oneness.
"The One" who has no divisions in His existence and His absolute ownership.
Humans can be unique in one aspect or more regarding different qualities and different talents but they cannot be the best and unique in all the qualities at the same time. Also, human talents do change and may diminish with time and age. ALLAH Al Wahid is the only One who is unique and remains the best forever in all His qualities. He is the One who created us and gave us different talents. No one can reach His level of excellence and no one can qualify for His equality in even any one of His qualities.
There are two distinct aspects of learning the name of Al Wahid:
The deeper acceptance of the Oneness of ALLAH for the perfection of His Majesty makes us believe that He is away from all imperfections. This hearty belief that all the goodness, praise, and glory belongs only to Him is called "Tawheed Al Ilmi" التوحيد العلمى. (The knowledge of His Oneness).
The action of worshipping only Him with total sincerity to Him. Doing this because He is the One who created us from scratch, giving us rizq and all bounties, He gave us life and He will grant us our death and to Him, we will be presented for our final decisions. Practically submitting in front of Him and doing what He wants us to do in a way that He wants us to do and not doing what He doesn't want us to do is called "Tawheed Al Amali" التوحيد العملى (The practical application of His Oneness).
The name of Al Wahid is to refresh our memories about both types of Oneness mentioned above and also, to remind us that we should achieve both of them. Our duty to Al Wahid isn't complete without getting both of these in our lives.
The human share in this name is obvious. It indicates that we need to review our priorities setup and keep ALLAH Al Wahid at the top. To keep Him above everything and everyone in life. To keep Him above our egos and pride. The honor and pride of an abd (servant of ALLAH) only lie in humbling in front of ALLAH and remaining obedient. اللَّهُم ربنا اجعلنا من المُخبتين
